In Loving Memory of Larry Eugene Hughey

Larry Eugene Hughey, a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, and cousin, passed away peacefully at his home early on Sunday morning, July 23, 2023.

Larry was born on March 22, 1949 in Transylvania County, the youngest son of Liston Hughes Hughey and Gladys Huntsinger Hughey. His departure from this world leaves a void that will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Larry's journey through life was marked by dedication and skill in his chosen profession. He attended Brevard High School and AB Technical College, where he honed his welding expertise. As a skilled Welder and Pipefitter, Larry's work took him to various states, where he contributed his talent and craftsmanship to countless projects. He spent a significant portion of his career as part of the maintenance and safety team at Nypro (now Jabil) before finally retiring to his home in Brevard.

Larry's greatest joys in life were found in his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Patricia (Patty) D. Hughey. Her loss caused distinct sorrow for Larry and he spoke lovingly of her memory. Larry was also preceded in death by his brothers, LH and Richard Hughey, and a sister, Patricia H. Taylor.

Larry's legacy lives on through those he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Quincy Calaway, stepdaughter, Cortney Hughey-Yetter (Erin), stepson Jason Hughey (Lisa), David Hughey (brother), and Mary Ann Demarest (sister). His presence will be deeply missed by his brother and sister-in-law Steve & Dana Tabor (Carly and Daniel), sister-in-law Brenda Walden (Jerry), as well as his cherished grandchildren: Mitchel Connelly, Hunter Alexander, Blake Hughey (Cassidy), Mackenzie Hughey (Will), Corbin Hughey, Caleb Hughey, Maggie Hughey, Joshua Hughey, and Elliott Hughey-Yetter. Additionally, he leaves behind several adoring nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. He also claimed Teresa Gavin and Darius Carr as precious additions to his family later in his life.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church 133 Osborne Rd, Brevard, NC at 6:00pm. Celebration of Life beginning at 7:00pm. During this time, family, friends, and loved ones will gather to remember the wonderful memories Larry created throughout his life. His warm smile, kind heart, quirky humor and unwavering love will forever be etched in their hearts.

In this time of sorrow, let us find comfort in the cherished moments and memories as we bid farewell to a remarkable man who touched so many lives with his love and zest for life.
