Larry Wayne Owenby, 59, of Pisgah Forest, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2013 at his home. Born on March 12, 1954, in Brevard, NC, he was the son of the late J.D. Owenby and Ruthie Mae Owenby. He graduated from Brevard High School, worked for Ecusta Corporation until its closing, enjoyed playing golf, catering his famous BBQ, and was an experienced carpenter. He loved being outside working in his yard and garden and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ellenburg Owenby, his children: Stewart Owenby (Shawnee), Allison Owenby (Shelley), Christy Owenby, Kimberly Nanney (Steve), Scott Wilson (Michele), ten grandchildren and a great-grandson, all of Transylvania County. He is also survived by five sisters, Martha Mahoney(Simp), Mary Reinhardt (Bill), Janie Gosnell (Carroll), Ada Suddeth, Devada Galloway, four brothers, Billy Owenby, Eddie Owenby, James "Bo" Owenby (Lisa), Bill "Porky" Wilson (Lori), his mother-in-law, Almeta Ellenburg, two sisters-in-law Pat Bailey (John), Kathy Tinsley (Mike), and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving, four-legged companion "Misty". A celebration of life service will be held at Carr's Hill Baptist Church, of which he was a member, on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Shane Hardesty, and Rev. Pete Lee officiating. A time of visitation will follow immediately after the service.
