Obituary

Laura Pauline Raines Stamey, 64, of Rosman died Wednesday, November 28, 2012. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of Etta Ella'V Eubanks Raines and the late Davis Cleamon Raines. She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Stamey; a sister, Elizabeth Cheryl Ann Raines Toole; and a grandson, William Coot Harris. Mrs. Stamey served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a prison chaplain in Spruce Pine, Black Mountain, North Carolina and was an officer at the Greenville County Detention Center in Greenville SC. Surviving are her daughters, Priscilla LaPlante and her fiancé Wesley E. Traynham, Shannon Raines Resendiz and husband Martin, son Brian Thomas Warden; brothers Paul Burgess Raines and wife Shirley Caroline, Cecil Pedro Raines and wife Barbara Faye, and Claude Mitchell Raines; sisters Etta Louis Owens and husband Roland Lee, and Viola Wiggins and husband Donald "Tonto" Wiggins; grandchildren Christina LaShea Harris, Amber Nichole Harris Pearson and her husband James Joshua Dean Pearson, James Porter Harris III and wife Erin Jade, Laura Patricia Lavelle Warden, Juan Amaya, Laura Maria Eva Raines, Chiya Resendiz, Martin Resendiz and Roberto Resendiz; and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Mrs. Stamey will be held at 2:00pm Monday, December 3, 2012 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Mount Moriah-Calvert Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
