Lawrence Porter Owen Brevard – Lawrence Porter Owen,76, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was the son of the late James Oscar and Oleta Dollie West Owen. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren; Lawrence Ray Stamey and Jake Anthony Lewis; nephew, Scott Owen and niece, Gina Owen. Lawrence was a member of Carr's Hill Baptist Church. He was a master mechanic and a "Jack of all trades". His yard was always full of broken cars that he would repair even if he was not paid. He would do anything for anyone and always went the extra mile to help someone in need. He loved motorcycles and fishing off the Jetty's. Lawrence also had a special love for the state of Texas. Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Esmeralda Gonzalez Owen; daughter, Ruthie Owen of Brevard; son, Lawrence Robert Owen and wife Jennifer of Abilene, KS; brothers, David Howard Owen and wife Patricia Ann of Etowah and Rev. John Clayton Owen and wife Janet of Columbus, NC; sister, Josephine Owen Barnes and Husband Jim of Brevard; grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Smith, Katarina Bly, Jonathan and Christopher Stiles, Knight and Connor Owen and four great grandchildren, Elijah and Jasmine Smith, John Bly and Kacelaha Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Carr's Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Shane Hardesty officiating.
