Lewis Powell "Bug-Eye" Bagwell, age 91, of Brevard died Tuesday March 2, 2010. At his residence he was born August 20, 1918 in Spartanburg SC to the late Landrum Earl Bagwell Sr. and Dovie Powell Bagwell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Landrum Earl Bagwell Jr. and Horace Bagwell, one sister Beryl Nalley and one nephew Horace Martin. Mr. Bagwell was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Brevard a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from Ecusta. Survivors include his wife of 68 years (A True Love Story) Katherine "Katie" Simpson of the home, one daughter; Mrs. Joan Bagwell Wally of Brevard; two granddaughters Kim and Eddie Bethea of Charlotte and Nan and Joel Shuford of Ocean Isle Beach; three great-grandaughters Rachel Bethea of Charlotte, Katlin Barrett and Nikki Shuford both of Ocean Isle Beach, one niece Fran Bagwell and two nephews Donald Martin and Landrum Earl Bagwell III. Graveside services will be held Saturday March 6, 2010 at 3:00pm at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery conducted by Rev. Danny Hedgepath. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:30pm prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to Transylvinia Regional Hospital Hospice, 1266 Asheville Hwy, Brevard NC 28712.
