Brevard – Lewis John Wallace, Jr., 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Lewis John Wallace and Lillian Conje Wallace.
Mr. Wallace was a U. S. Army veteran and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He worked as a Technical Illustrator at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for 35 years, working on both the Apollo and Shuttle programs. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Brevard, NC and he concentrated on his development as a watercolorist, painting mostly local waterfalls in the area. He became a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and other societies in multiple states. A talented Jazz trumpet player, he played as a Community Volunteer with the Brevard College Jazz Ensemble. He was also an active member of the chess club at the Silvermont Senior Center.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years,Trilby; children, John and wife Denise of Port St. John, FL, Barbara and husband Chris of Merritt Island, FL, Mark and wife Judi of Rockledge, FL, Jennifer and husband Jeff of Orlando, FL, and Richard of Port St. John, FL; brother, Bill Wallace and wife Valerie of Seattle WA; sisters, Marie Straub and husband James of Stevensville, MI, and Diane McKee and husband Peter of Grand Island, NY; and nine grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with Celebrant, Gatha Dickson officiating. A private interment will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brevard Cancer and Infusion Center of TRH, 89-A Hospital Dr., Brevard, NC 28712.
