Obituary

Linda Siniard Nelson passed away peacefully on June 10 at the family home following a long illness. At the end, she was surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Linda was the daughter of Hale (Guis) Siniard and Audrey Auvil Siniard. She was the second of four children; Ray (wife Marie), Linda, Claudia Bradley (husband Mike), and David (wife Debbie). For the last 38 years, she has been the loving and devoted wife and life partner of Larry Nelson. Together they have raised three children; Josh Bradley (Caren and son, Matt Kasse) of Raleigh, NC, Jeremy Bradley (Charmaine and sons, Jack and James) of Long Beach, CA, and April Nelson (sons Nelson Kittrell and Camden Nelson) of Brevard, NC. They also continue to be blessed with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Linda was an honors graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, NC in elementary education and taught a short time in SC and before spending the remainder of her career here in the Transylvania County School System serving in many of the elementary schools in the county. She believed strongly in public education and rejoiced in seeing and talking with her past students as they became adults. In the mid 1990's, she was President of the Transylvania County Association of Educators. After her retirement from teaching, she focused on supporting her husband and helping her children and later her grandchildren. Linda and Larry are both Transylvania County natives but have lived in PA, GA, and NC as required by Larry's work. The couple also had a vacation/rental home on Edisto Island for several years. These homes allowed Linda the opportunity to practice her love of home decorating, design, and antiquing. She especially loved Edisto, listening to the waves, shell hunting, and many good memories were made on Edisto with the family. Additionally, Linda loved sewing and made many of the curtains, pillows and drapes in her homes as well as furniture covers and some clothing. She was also a voracious reader of historical fiction novels, playing puzzles on her iPad, and keeping up with and expressing her views on current events. Linda was a lifelong member of St Timothy United Methodist Church of Brevard. Over the years, she shared her talents in numerous positions within the Church. Linda believed in Jesus's commandment to his disciples, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." The family is glad to receive friends at our home at 64 Blue Bird Lane, Brevard anytime, but plan a casual come as you are visitation in Linda's honor on Sunday, June 19 from 2-5pm. There are no plans for a formal service. If you desire, donations should be made to CurePSP, a division of the Mayo Clinic doing brain research into cures for degenerative brain diseases.
