Brevard - Lois M. Cassell Owen, 101, passed away peacefully Thursday December 29, 2022 surrounded by her family.

A lifelong resident of Transylvania County, she was born Nov. 16, 1921 to the late Ellie and Ossie Hubbard Cassell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen R. Owen, daughter, Shirley (Clifford) Cison, two sons, Robert Owen and Steve Owen, step-son, Leonard (Margaret) Owen, step-daughter, Lola Banther, sister Zelma Cassell, grand-children, Cathy Murphy, Joyce (Steve) Reese, and Lawton Murphy, son-in-law, Pat Parker, daughter-in-law, Diane Owen, brother, Elwood (Dixie) Cassell, sister, Louise (Phil) Valore, half brothers, Clarence Patterson and Everette(Patsy) Patterson.

She loved gardening, canning, growing flowers and cooking on her wood stove.

She enjoyed sewing quilt tops and gave one to each of her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was attending Carson's Creek Church, where she was a lifelong member since she was six weeks old. Her faith was strong, even to the end. She was a loving mother to nine children.

Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, Wayne (Judy) Owen, James (Becky) Owen, Bobby Owen, Mary Parker (Ted), Carlos (Kim) Owen and Christine (Ray) Sprouse, two half brothers, Coy Patterson (Barbara) and Jerry Patterson (Ruby), sister, grand-children, Jo Ann Murphy McIntosh, Patsy Case, Keith Owen, Randy Owen, Brian Owen, Dianna Owen, Mario Owen, Heather (Sanjiv) Vinaik, Terry Parker(Shannon), Jeff Parker (Megan), Tonya Owen, Curt Owen, Stephanie Owen, Jason Owen, Kayla Love, David (Sara-Diana) Owen, Matthew (Lydia) Sprouse, multiple great grand children and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special heartfelt thank you to Mavis H. Smith for taking such good care of our dear mother during her last days. They grew to be great friends and loved each other.

Services will be held at Carson's Creek Baptist Church 4727 Connestee Trail, Brevard, NC 28712 on Tuesday January 3, 2023. Visitation will be 1:00 pm with services beginning at 2:00 pm. Officiating are the Revs. Eddie Dodson and Michael Childers. Pallbearers are grandsons, Keith Owen, Mario Owen, Terry Parker, Curt Owen, David Owen and Matthew Sprouse.
