Brevard – Mae Galloway Owen, 101, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 19, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Milas and Olevia Bowen Galloway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam C. Owen; sons, James Owen and Winfred "Toby" Owen; grandson, Jonathan Owen, sons in law; Joe Osteen and Lionel Jones, daughter in law, Faye Owen and five brothers and three sisters. Mae was the oldest living member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Jackson County where she played the pump organ as a young girl. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker who always made family and friends feel welcome. She touched countless lives in a positive way and was known by most people as "Mamaw". Mae was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and she especially enjoyed camping trips with them. Surviving are her sons; Lloyd Owen and wife Jackie of Pisgah Forest, Donald Owen and wife Doris of Brevard and Dennis Owen and wife Stacy of Brevard, daughters; Agnes Osteen of Brevard, Helen McMahan and husband Auzel "Wimpy" of Brevard and Doris Jones of Pisgah Forest, brother; Milas Galloway, Jr. and wife Mary Sue of Sylva, daughter in law, June Owen of Brevard, grandchildren; Patricia, Genelle, Gail, Michael, Denise, Sammy, David, Debbie, Jack, Ricky, Brent, Kelly, Dane, Brandon and Scott, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm Monday at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
