Charlotte Marie Barton Cison, 95, of Brevard passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022, with her family by her side.

Marie, lovingly known as "Mimi" to family and friends alike, was a devoted and humble wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and daughter. One of eight siblings, she was born on July 19, 1927, and was raised in the Cathey's Creek (Selica) community. Marie loved telling stories about her early years and fondly remembered her father's garden and helping her mother can vegetables over the wood burning cookstove. The family walked to church at Cathey's Creek Baptist Church every Sunday, even in the rain or snow, and Marie was baptized in Cathey's Creek at age fifteen. After attending the Selica School and Brevard High School Marie worked at Ecusta and married Bill Cison on May 24,1952. She then spent many years raising her two children and working with her husband at Cison's Plumbing Company which they owned and operated.

Marie was quick to help whenever a need arose and always put others before herself. She enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family, and was well known for her fudge, coconut cake, pound cake, and creamed corn. In recent years, Marie spent considerable time knitting scarves and distributing them at local retirement homes. She was a member of The Knitting Ladies at Cathey's Creek Community Center and treasured her friendships there. A long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, Marie lovingly served for many years as one of the church hostesses and was active in the YES club. She enjoyed her garden and grew beautiful gladiolas and zinnias which she shared freely. Holidays were special to Marie, and she enjoyed planning family birthday celebrations, coming up with crazy costumes for Halloween each year, and creating lasting Christmas traditions. Family gatherings were always important to her, and she loved spending time with loved ones, especially when it involved visiting and laughing around the fire pit. Her memory will live on in the lives of all those she touched.

Marie is predeceased by her parents, Harkless and Ada Barton, her husband, William "Bill" Cison, and her siblings Helen Davis, Myrtle Owen, Kate Sanders, and Dick, Frank, Arthur, and Clyde Barton. She is survived by her two children, Linda Snowdon (Robert) and Roger Cison, both of Brevard, as well as her granddaughters Lisa Metcalf (Carleton) and Laura Burgess (Marty). Additionally, she is survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Will Metcalf (Lily), Claire and Parker Metcalf, and Walker and Jackson Burgess, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Monday November 7, 2022, at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
