Martha McGavock Whitmire, age 65 died at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock on Wednesday December 22, 2010. She was the wife of former Sheriff of Transylvania County Milton Whitmire. They married in 1970. Mrs. Whitmire was the daughter of the late Dr. William G. McGavock and Sarah Nolen McGavock of Davidson NC. Mrs. Whitmire was a member of The Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Survivors in addition to her Husband Milton Whitmire include one brother; David Nolen McGavock and his wife Sandy of Columbia Falls Mt., Brother-in-law; jerry Whitmire and his wife Bonnie, Sisters-in-laws; Sara Buchanan and her husband Ray and Jan Lee and her husband George, and a number of Nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Milton wishes to extend a special thanks to all those who helped care for Martha through the years including Margo, Denny, Debroah, Erica, Becca, Crissy, Julie, Willie, Brenda, Transylvania EMS, Brevard Rescue, Transylvania County Hospital, Mission Hospital, Steph Stone, Hope Cardin and the Elizabeth House doctors, nurses, CNA's and volunteers.
