Mrs. Mary Stella Hipps Brown, age 89, of Etowah, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 11, 2009, after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Santa Eliza Thompson Hipps of Henderson County. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Robert, and Henry Hipps. Survivors include; her loving husband Lester John Brown, of the home. One daughter, Velma Brown Rogers, and husband Bill, of Etowah. Three sons, Johnny Mack Brown, and wife June of Fletcher, Robert Brown, and Joel Brown of Etowah. Three sisters, Madeline Kilpatrick of Jennings, OK, Santa Vada Hargus, of East Flat Rock, and Margaret Huntley, of Brevard. Three brothers, Horace Hipps, of Hendersonville, Willis Hipps, of Brevard, and Phralo Hipps, of Nashville, TN. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held, Monday, December 14, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., at Pisgah Gardens, with the Rev. Brian Henderson officiating. Mrs. Brown was a member of Etowah Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshiping with her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Etowah Baptist Church, Etowah, NC.
