Mary Todd Buckner, 82, of Penrose, NC, went home to be with her Lord on Dec 9, 2024, after struggling with dementia.

Mary was born to the late David Odell and Margaret Johnston Todd on April 26, 1942, in Asheville, NC.  She grew up in Asheville, NC with her six siblings and graduated from Asheville High School.  She worked at Ecusta in Brevard for over 30 years, retiring as a legal secretary.  She was a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church in Brevard, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Donald "Tom" Buckner, a son, David Metcalf, and a son, Gregory Metcalf.

She is survived by daughter Cynthia Elliott of Seneca, SC; stepson, Donald Thomas Jr. of Lake Junaluska; and stepdaughter, Janice Buckner Day of Morganton; a brother Donald Todd; 3 sisters Nancy Vinson of Candler; Carolyn Apple (Bob) of Asheville; and Judy (Bruce) of Florida; 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mary was known as a warm, loving, and caring wife, mother and grandmother.  She and Tom loved to visit with family and friends, to host large meals at family get-togethers, to plant and tend to her garden and flowers, and to go camping.  She loved to read and work her puzzles.  Family and friends always marveled at her cooking which was one of her passions.

The family will be having a graveside service sometime in January.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Temple Baptist Church, 45 Temple Church Rd, Brevard, NC, 28712.
