Loving Mother and Nana, Mary Lavada Kilpatrick Owen, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She closed her eyes in rest and woke up in the presence of the Lord.

Lavada was married for 56 years to the late Rev. Floyd Owen who died in 2007. They made their home in Balsam Grove.

She was born April 21, 1933, to the late Fred and Reba Kilpatrick. Her brother, Jackie Kilpatrick and cherished grandson, Cole Owen also preceded her in death.

Lavada was a loving mother to her five children, Deborah Orr, Sheila McCall, Alfred Owen, Dale Owen, and Kerry Owen. Also surviving are two sisters, Marion Own and Molly Patterson. She was Nana to her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She worked at American Thread and the Tracking Station. After retirement, she loved working in the yard where she had hundreds of different flowers. Lavada would point out the smallest bloom with a smile. She loved to watch birds and butterflies and she was an avid reader.

Lavada was a Christian and you knew it. She loved her church family where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She so enjoyed her caregiver, Sandy Sheppard. The children would like to thank Sandy from the bottom of their hearts for the loving care she gave our mother.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Aiken and Rev. Gary McCarter officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Balsam Grove next to her husband.
