Obituary

Melba McGuire Enlow passed away peacefully on Monday morning September 16th at 1:40am in Transylvania Hospital. Born October 13, 1935 Melba would have soon celebrated her 79th birthday. She is survived by husband Tom Enlow, daughter Teresa and husband Scott McCall, son Phil and wife Cathy Kitchen, and son Scott Kitchen, all of Brevard, N.C. She is also survived by sister Aundria McGuire Ayers, five grand-children, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Gregory Kitchen, Sisters Willoree Galvan, Emogene Macri and Lena McGuire as well as Brothers Joseph, Bruce, and William McGuire. Her children were her greatest joy, as were her grand-children (Mikki, Bobby, Stephanie, Casey and Michael) and great grandchildren (Madison, Savada and Braxton) who she loved dearly. Over the past 7 years she enjoyed companionship and joy with the love of her "babies" Rowdy, Rascal and Cuddles. Melba's passion was cooking for a few or for dozens, she never thought of it as work. It was simply one of the ways she shared love with others. In 1935 when she was two months old, her Mother and Father (Walter and Lessie McGuire) bought a farm in Pisgah Forest which became a well known dairy farm. It was the middle of the Great Depression and survival required everyone to work. A trait which carried her as she continued to work hard throughout her life to create a home and raise her children. Her life was filled with setbacks and hardships from which she continually rebounded with courage, strength and a deeper love for all. When everyone else doubted survival she did survive often at a painful physical cost, experiencing more than 20 major life threatening surgeries through the years. She became a home care provider later in life finding her calling providing a deep sense of fulfillment that she continued until she was 73. Over the past several years as her health declined, pain took over her body but not her spirit. Her last "good" day was spent in talk of loved ones with great compassion and plans she had already made for Christmas, her favorite time of year. The thought of the days, weeks, months and years ahead without her are painful to contemplate but knowing the joy she is experiencing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ brings comfort and peace. We, her children, are so proud, so grateful for her love, compassion and caring that will carry forward within our hearts each day. Funeral services will be this Thursday, September 18th, at Moody-Connolly funeral home chapel in Brevard, N.C. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at 2:30 P.M.
