Mildred (Galloway) Morgan, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 19, 2026 at Sapphire Ridge in Brevard, NC. Born on November 4, 1932 in Greenville, SC, Mildred spent most of her youth in Rosman, NC. She was the 5th of 9 children born to Dallis Aiken Galloway and Milford H. Galloway of Transylvania county. A child of the depression, Mildred’s life was a testament to strength and resilience, inspiring all with her kindness, compassion, and hard work.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers J. P., L. C. and R. G. (Cotton) Galloway, and sisters Christine Galloway Cantrell and Josephine Galloway Morgan.
Mildred is survived by Joseph Rodgers, the son of her first husband Grady Rodgers of Kannapolis, NC (deceased). Also surviving are a brother, D. H. (Gail) Galloway of Frozen Creek and her sisters Dr. Shelby Galloway and Geraldine Chapman (D. H. Chapman, deceased) who reside in Rosman.
Mildred is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews, all who were cared for by Mildred in their early years. The children called her “aunt Mip”, which she kept as a cherished nickname the rest of her days.
All who knew Mildred remember her cobblers, sweet tea, and the many dishes she brought to all family functions.
Mildred’s early years were spent in the Kannapolis area, where she was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School and presided over the kitchen. After moving to the Rosman area she was employed at American Thread for over ten years until their closing, after which she was hired at the Brevard Walmart where she was named Employee of the Month. She was thrilled working at Walmart where she met many folks that became her “best friends” for life.
