Nilsa Lobdell Pisgah Forest - Our dear mother Nilsa Vargas Lobdell passed away on March 5 at her home. She would have been 81 years old this May. She is survived by her sons Neil Bergal (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL and Allen Bergal (Kim Goforth) of Asheville; daughters Jenny Quinn (Chris) of Asheville and Katie Lee (Stephen) of Brevard, along with four grandchildren: Rebecca, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Zola; two great-grandchildren: Brandon and Jason. She was preceded in death by her husband David Lobdell and former husband Robert Franz Bergal. Nilsa was born in New York City to Paul and Emma Vargas. Following a career in Hematology, she served as a volunteer in the Unitarian Universalist Church, Transylvania County 4-H, Girl Scouts, Transylvania Arts Council, Land of Sky Regional Council, Transylvania Historical Society, and the Transylvania County Sherriff's Department. She also helped preserve the cultural heritage of Transylvania County by gathering oral histories. Nilsa had a warm, welcoming demeanor and found joy in her family, friendships and community. A Memorial Service will take place Wednesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m., at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard, NC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Nilsa Lobdell. A gathering of friends and family is also planned for early May.
