Brevard - Nora Brown Mathis Israel, age 100, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020. Nora Edna Brown was born on July 14, 1920 to the late Rob and Clearcie Brown in Jackson County. Nora was the oldest of two brothers: Chester and Wendall and six sisters: Ima, Edith, Etter, Minnie Sue, Katie, and Mary Ellen. All preceding her in death. Her husband Clarence Isarel also preceded her. Nora never met a stranger, she loved to talk, sew, cook, and try new recipes. In the summer time you could find her working in vegetable and flower gardens followed by breaking beans and shucking corn on the porch. She had a special roommate at the Oaks named Mary. There Nora enjoyed giving candy to anyone who came to visit, but would keep the applesauce all to herself. She will always hold a special place in so many lives and be missed by all those who love her. 100 years, what a wonderful life. Surviving are her five children: Robert Mathis, Jake Mathis, Beverly Wilson, Avonda Jones, and Rachel Courson. She has 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Graveside service will be held 11am, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. A celebration of life will be planned and held at a later date.
