Obituary

Brevard - Oilver Way Dixon, age 86, peacefully passed away in his sleep on June 2, 2023.

Oliver was preceded in death by, his Mother Alice Perry Dixon, Father Joshua Dixon, Twin Sister Olive May Dixon Hamlin, Niece Loretta Lynne Raines.

Oliver was born on September 4, 1937 in the eastern part of North Carolina but soon returned to Transylvaina County and was raised by a single mother (Alice Dixon) during the depression, that lead to his great respect for women. Oliver was very intelligent, as a youth he learned lacing purses, belts and billfolds. He learned a variety of trades including electric repair, carving, woodworking, leather work and mechanics. He found Jesus as a teenager at a camp meeting and was a life long Christian. He discovered as a youth he was very talented to play a harmonica and a guitar and always loved music. He always helped his mother grow a garden and he loved the out doors. When his mother's health failed he took care of her until her death, walking or hitch hiking miles to town to get groceries and medicine. He taught his twin sister how to drive in order to expand her opportunities. He never married or had children but helped raise his twin sister (Olive May Dixon Hamlin's) children. He was an excellent surrogate father and became a mentor, teacher, friend and example of how one should live ones live. He enjoyed everything from shooting a rifle, throwing knives and how to play sports and how to be a good sport and life lesson of how everyone no matter how different we're all the same. He always said the more knowledge you have the more opportunities it creates. He was loved by everyone who got to know him and had excellent sense of humor.

He is survived by Nephews, Alvin Hamlin (Kathy), Rick Hamlin (Cindy), Ashley Hamlin (Velvet), Chris Hamlin, great nephew's, Harley Hamlin, Heath Hamlin, great Niece's, Crystal Ingle (Alex), Jamie McKeown James, Stoney Luker (David), Alisha Raines, Stephanie Raines, several great great nephews and niece's and cousins.
