Brevard - Oscar Reiner Jr passed away on December 12, 2023.
Born on March 3rd, 1928 in Manhattan, New York City, to Oscar Sr and Emma Singler Reiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Isabelle, and sister Emma R. Novotny
He was educated in New York City, and Wellsburg high school, New York.
Seeking employment and adventure, he traveled to Placerville, CA, with a friend whose father found them jobs at PG and E Utility Company, A short time later, he found a better job at the May Company of Los Angeles. Here he claims he "struck it rich" because he met and married Isabelle Noggle, a union that lasted nearly 70 years. Being a romantic, she insisted they be wed in a tiny chapel just two blocks from the corner of Hollywood and Vine.
Uncle Sam came calling on April 7th, 1952 and Oscar was assigned to an engineering unit as company supply assistant. He spent time in Missouri, Alaska. And Sacramento, CA. Whole at the latter, he hitchhiked to Los Angles to see Isabelle whenever possible.
With his military obligation behind him and the GI Bill to his credit, he enrolled the n the National Electronic and TV School for an 18 month, full time program. Isabelle worked full time and he took two part time evening jobs to make ends meet. The resulting job was that of an electronics technician at UCLA, where he worked on a nuclear medical project in 1956.
The Reiners acquired the first home of their own in 1952. It was located in the LaMar Vista area of Los Angeles. There they made many friends and traveled extensively. One shirt, but very exciting trip sas to the Las Vegas Test Site for the explosion of "Plumbob", an atomic bomb.
After acquiring his associates degree in 1962, Oscar worked for Hughes Aircraft, where he received several promotions and remained until his retirement in 1985. At that time, his title was Senior Project Engineer.
To avoid "all work and no play " idiom, Oscar became a licensed pilot in 1961, and he added an instrument rating in 1968. He stayed with the flying club until it was dissolved in 1975.
Having visited Western North Carolina on a motor trip and falling in love with the area, the Reiners moved to Brevard in 1991. He joined the Elk club and volunteered at the Brevard Little Theatre as a set constructor. For over 25 years, Isabelle and he attended nearly every play that the local theater had produced. In 2010, they moved to College Walk, where Isabelle departed in 2020 and in May 2023, Oscar moved to SilverBell Homestead in Fletcher and remained there until his death.
In addition to being a licensed pilot, Oscar had many hobbies. Among them are woodworking, gardening, playing bridge, poker, bocce and billiards, line dancing, and traveling to But, best of all, he will be remembered as a genuinely good friend.
He leaves behind nieces and nephew, Steven Puckett, Joan Kennedy, Sue Ann Herendeen, Janelle Stock, Nanette Miner and Julie Colon. Friends and staff at College Walk, SilverBell Homestead, Four Seasons and his dear friend John.

Graveside services will be held 1pm, December 20, 2023 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
