Brevard - Phyllis Jan Patterson Gerring (Jan) passed away early Monday, April 29, 2024  surrounded by her family.  Born in Brevard NC,  she would live most of her life between Michigan and North Carolina and settled finally in the town of her birth.

Having worked for Bi-Lo grocery store for 34 years, she retired in 2019.  Those many years provided her the opportunity to meet, mentor and develop a large "family" outside of her biological one.  Her Bi-Lo "work family", even after retirement, meant so much to her and she also delighted in watching so many of the young people who worked for her grow up and become successful adults.

While the most important thing in her life was her family, she enjoyed her friendships and her hobbies also.

Dancing was her passion for many years.  She attended classes and conventions and went on to become a very talented dancer.  She competed in several competitions and won several competitions. She loved to teach country line dancing and see people enjoy themselves through dance.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents Wm Theodore & Azalea Hamilton Patterson, daughter Maggie Melinda Gerring and her bother Wm Bruce (Bill) Patterson (Tammy).

Surviving are her children Seth Wm Gerring (Cassie), Amy Jo Riddick (David), sisters Melanie Ray Rosenberg (Randy) and Dana Lee Patterson (Steve). Also surviving are her grandchildren: Vincent Riddick (Christine), Terrell Riddick, Devin Pleiman, Georgia & Hadley Gerring, great grandchildren: Blakleigh & Azaleigh Pleiman, Henry Lamar & Ezra Riddick, nieces and nephews: Sonya (Paul) & Mark Patterson, Austin, Olivia & Jesse Lowery, Ethan Rosenberg  and great nieces and nephews:  Renleigh, Memphis, Noah & Carson.  Each and everyone one of them she loved with all her heart and all of them love their Gammie/Gaggie/Aunt Jan.

She will be missed more than words can ever say.

A memorial service will be held 10am, Saturday, May 4, 2024 at  Moody Connolly Funeral Home.
