Obituary

Richard Donald "Ricky" Stephens

Richard Donald "Ricky" Stephens, 69, went home to be with his heavenly father on June 18, 2026. Born on January 17, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, Ricky lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to family, and a genuine love for people.

A 1975 graduate of Brevard High School, Ricky spent his entire career in the restaurant industry, beginning at a young age and developing a strong work ethic that became one of his defining characteristics. His commitment to hard work and perseverance became a lasting legacy that has been passed down through generations of his family.

Ricky proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He carried the values of discipline, loyalty, and service throughout his life.

Known for his warm personality, Ricky truly never met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting new people, sharing stories, and making friends wherever he went. Christmas was his favorite holiday, and he cherished the time spent gathering with family and loved ones during the season.

Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Dwayne Stephens, and his mother, Ola Josephine Powell.

He is survived by his son, Eric Stephens and wife Maria; his daughter, Traci Nowlin and husband Sean; his sisters, Constance Newton and husband Ted, Rebecca Stephens, Catherine Rena Wilson and husband Myron; his brother Ronald Stephens and wife Kat. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Kevin McConnell and wife Trudy.

Ricky was a proud grandfather to Brady Stephens, Blake Stephens, Levi Nowlin, and Makayla Nowlin. He was also blessed with great-granddaughter Paisli Stephens and eagerly anticipated the arrival of great-grandson Jamison Stephens.

In addition to his immediate family, Ricky leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.

He also cherished his second family at Mel’s Diner in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday June, 22, 2026 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Middle Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Though Ricky's presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of hard work, love of family, and ability to make everyone feel welcome will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
