Obituary

Pisgah Forest - Roger Lee Stansel was born at Transylvania Community Hospital on July 23, 1957 at 3:30pm.  Roger Lee Stansel found peace at Transylvania Regional Hospital on January 13, 2024 at 10:51pm.

He was 66 years old and a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, husband, father, uncle and best friend.

Roger was the son of the late Calvin Donald Stansel and Helen Dodson Stansel of the Middle Fork Community in Rosman. Roger is survived by his wife, Christy, daughter, Hannah, son, Garrett, and sister, Cheryl Rice (David).

He graduated from Rosman High School in 1975 and enjoyed his work at Kentucky Fried Chicken, MB Industries, The Singer Company, Platt Saco Lowell Corporation, Transylvania County Tax Office and the City of Brevard Planning Department.  Roger received an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Blue Ridge Community College and was a volunteer tutor at Pisgah Forest Elementary School for many years.  Roger was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, and served as an usher and on the Board of Trustees.

Roger was known for camping, hiking, and mountain biking in the Pisgah National Forest and on the Blue Ridge Parkway – building bluebird houses and wooden benches – browsing thrift shops – collecting antiques  – enjoying Taco Tuesdays – gardening/landscaping - family beach trips - feeding the backyard birds and squirrels – loving the color red – reading Don't Sweat the Small Stuff book series - spoiling the cats and dog – throwing baseball with his kids – walking down Maple Street - watching Seinfeld –  but mostly for his heart so big, his radiant smile, his sparkling blue eyes, and following Matthew 22:37-39.

The family held a graveside service on Thursday, January 18, 2024 officiated by Reverend Andrew Crimmins, pastor of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and a special message from Pastor Rick Lee.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff of MountainCare Adult Day Services of Hendersonville, Transylvania Regional Hospital, and Four Seasons Hospice for their love and care of Roger.
