Brevard – Ronald C. Lavery, 80, went to our Lord on August 4, 2016 at the Kingsbridge House after battling Alzheimers for 9 years.
He was born in Queens, NY and lived on Long Island until he retired as an All State Insurance Agent. In 1996 he and his wife designed and built their home in Connestee Falls. Ron and his wife Audrey were childhood sweethearts and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was also a member of the choir and Knights of Columbus.
Ron always gave of his time and talents. On Long Island he was a volunteer policeman for Suffolk County and continued that interest volunteering for the Transylvania County Sherriff's Department. He tutored at Brevard Elementary, participated in NCDOT trash program, helped with the French Broad River cleanup and spent many years as a Red Cross donor and disaster volunteer.
He had many social interests such as playing bridge, chess and target shooting. His favorite past time was playing golf. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and fun dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Helen Smith Lavery.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Audrey Lavery; sons, Ronald Lavery, Jr. and wife Robyne of Evanston, IL, Randy Lavery and wife Donna of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Rick Lavery of Anderson, SC and Rory Lavery and wife Elizabeth of Bedford, NH; daughter, Andrea Maas and husband Brian of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Hank and Gary Lavery and grandchildren; Alex, Caroline, Jack, Michael, Rick Jr., Caitlyn, John, Kieran, Katie, Alison, Carly and Daniel.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11am, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a reception to follow. Burial will be in the church columbarium.
