Roy O. Gantt, age 73, went to be with our Lord on August 10, 2021. He will be missed forever by his family. Roy was born December 19, 1947, in Rosman, NC to the late John and Ophilia Gantt. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Ophilia Gantt, his twin Ruth Stubblefield and his sister-in law Brenda Faye Gantt. He attended Rosman High School prior to being drafted by the US Army. Roy served his country proudly for 2 years. Roy had the opportunity to travel with the US Army that he wouldn't have had otherwise. He loved telling people about his trip to Sydney, Australia. After the army he worked for American Thread and then Olin Corporation. After working at Olin Corporation for thirty plus years, Roy became disabled and received a bi-lateral lung transplant in 2006. We were blessed to have an additional 15 years with Roy due to someone else's sacrifices. In February 1988, Roy married Brenda Carol Kelley and they celebrated 33 years of marriage in 2021. Roy loved his wife and his 2 children, their spouses and his 5 grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Brenda Kelley Gantt; his brother John (Bud) Gantt; son Chuckie Harrison and wife Melissa of Brevard, NC; Kelley Kinsey and husband David of Balsam Grove, NC and grandchildren, Skylar Harrison, Kyndall Harrison, Jaylen Kinsey, Anslie Harrison and Bryce Kinsey. Roy was an easy-going person. He loved to talk and visit with people. He seemed to know everyone and never met a stranger. He loved his family, the Atlanta Braves and doing word search puzzles. Regardless of whether it was a winning season or loosing season, he watched every Braves game he could. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Moody Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service.
