IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Cleo
Holden
March 20, 1941 – April 11, 2025
Ruby Cleo Hoxit Holden, age 84 of Brevard, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 11, 2025.
She was born in Jackson County, but became a resident of Transylvania County at a young age. She was a 1961 graduate of Brevard High School. On December 24, 1961 she married Carroll Samuel Holden. At the time of his passing on January 18, 2017, they were married for 55 years.
From the late 1960's through mid 1970's they owned and operated the iconic Triangle Drive-In which was open 24 hours, 7 days a week. After selling the business, she worked as a supervisor at Ruth Original until their closing. She then proceeded to join her husband in the grocery business at Bi-Lo. She worked in different departments at several locations until her retirement.
Cleo was very proud of her Cherokee Ancestry. She took pleasure in learning their history and language. She enjoyed planting and working in the garden. On Saturdays you would find both Cleo and Carroll at the Farmer's Market in Brevard selling their beautiful produce they grew. She also spent countless hours canning vegetables and making jellies. As time went on, she started enjoying the simple, smaller pleasures of life. She loved gazing out her front window watching birds eat, a bunny hopping across the yard, and looking with anticipation for the first blooms from her rose bush. When she wasn't looking outside, she would watch sewing/quilting shows and the Fox News. The biggest smile would come across her face when talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding in death was her devoted husband Carroll Samuel Holden; her father Edwin Ed Hoxit, stepmother Pearl Myers Hoxit of Pisgah Forest, and mother Minnie Lee Fissel of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Dana Russell of Brevard, half sisters Betty Hoxit of Pisgah Forest, Joanne Smoyer and Becky Davis (Johnny) of Lansing, Michigan; and nephew Charles Russell of Brevard.
Surviving family is her daughter Debra Freeman (Roger) and son David Holden (Missy) both from Hendersonville; half brothers Tony Hoxit (Cindy), Bobby Hoxit of Pisgah Forest, Danny Brown and Kenny Fissel of Virginia; grandchildren Jennifer Austin (Brian) of Hendersonville, Karly Freeman (Adam) of Liberty, SC and Joshua Holden of Hendersonville; two great grandchildren Emma Austin and Greyson Austin of Hendersonville; niece Teri Russell of Brevard and numerous other nephews and nieces.
As per her request, there will not be a service.
The family would like to thank all who was involved in her care. There are no words to express how grateful and wonderful Four Seasons Hospice was to our family and especially our MOM!
