Obituary

Ruth Lietzenmayer, 97 years old passed away on Monday, June 10, 2014. Ruth was the daughter of Phillmore and Sarah Swinyer of Vermontville, NY. In addition to her parents and five siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, William I. in October 2000 and daughter, Anne Whyland in June 2012. Her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Betty of Pisgah Forest, NC survive her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William T. (and Alison) Lietzenmayer of Seattle, WA, Kimberley (and Kenneth) Renoll of Spring Grove, PA and R. Todd Whyland (Dawn) of Abbottstown, PA. Ruth also leaves three great grandchildren, living in PA. Ruth and Bill were married on January 8, 1939 and settled in Saranac Lake, New York later making their home in Ticonderoga, NY where they raised their two children. Ruth was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ticonderoga teaching Sunday School, a member of the UMW and serving on several committees. She later joined the Episcopal Church of the Cross in Ticonderoga where she was also an active member. Ruth served on the Altar Guild and participated in the annual rummage sale by donating her floral arrangements, knitted and stitched items. Ruth donated many years of volunteer work to the former Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, NY and earned the Woman of the Year award in 1974. She was also active in Scouting, Order of the Eastern Star and NYS Federation of Home Bureaus. She relocated to Brevard, NC in December 2001 to be near her son. In Brevard, she enjoyed entertaining many friends and neighbors, attending the First United Methodist Church of Brevard, NC, sewing, knitting and baking. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Western Carolina, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28215. Memorial services will be held 2pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the rev. Kerry Purselle officiating.
