Brevard - Ruth Avery Moss Moore, 83, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Ruth was the only child of the late Clarence Clifton Moss and Avery Mauney Moss.

Born in Fayetteville, NC, she graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1958 in Wilson, NC and Meredith College in 1961. A longtime resident of Camden, SC, she served as a gifted and passionate elementary school teacher for several decades. Upon her retirement, she lived in Brevard, NC where she remained an active member of her community, a devoted friend, and a committed member of First Baptist Church. Throughout her life she served her church as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, organist, and pianist. She enjoyed playing the dulcimer and began a music ministry to homebound community members across Transylvania County. Ruth was an avid reader who adored a captivating story and enjoyed learning about US, World, and Church History. An active hiker, camper, biker, water skier, and bird watcher, she enjoyed spending time outside with the people she loved. Ruth also enjoyed traveling and RVing with her husband, grandchildren, and friends throughout the United States and Europe.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles F. Moore II and their two children David (Denita) Moore of Brevard, NC and Avery (Rob) Moser of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by their six grandchildren Dr. Elisabeth Moore (Brevard, NC), Robert Moser (Cambridge, MA), Mary M. (Adam) Brown (Belmont, NC), Charles A. Moser (Clemson, SC), Thomas A. Moser (Easley, SC), and Johnathan Moore (Brevard, NC).

A graveside service will be held at Gillespie Cemetery in Brevard at 11:00 on Saturday, October 28th.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth Moore's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
