Brevard - Sallie Sewell Crosley, 62, passed away on August 23, 2021 at Mission Hospital after a difficult battle with kidney disease and its complications.
She was born on October 5th, 1958 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Jack Leroy Sewell and Kathryn Marie Twyford and was raised in Miami, Florida with two siblings, Barbara and Robert. In addition to her parents, Sallie was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Ann Sewell.
After graduating from Adelphi Preparatory School in 1975, she attended Miami Dade Community College. Throughout her teens and adulthood, Sallie worked at the Doral Country Club as a switchboard operator, volunteered her time as candy striper at Hialeah Hospital, and worked for many years as a preschool teacher. However, her role as a mother and homemaker were her proudest undertakings. Sweethearts from an early age, Sallie and Nelson Crosley were married on September 4th, 1982. Together they raised their daughter, Lindsay, and relocated to Brevard, North Carolina in 1998. This year would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. Sallie was passionate about photography and, when she was not filling her home with warmth and love, she could be found at the dining room table or in the study, arranging those photos into scrapbooks. She loved to document her and the family's adventures with meticulous organization and creativity. Sallie enjoyed traveling to tropical destinations, decorating and celebrating the holidays, singing and listening to all genres of music, visiting family, planning vacations to Walt Disney World, and Korean dramas. Her grandsons were her world and she loved them dearly.
Survivors include her soulmate and husband, Nelson Crosley; daughter, Lindsay Anne (Crosley) Mathews; son-in-law, Daniel Stephen Mathews; grandsons, Riley James Glenn and Declan Elias Mathews; niece and god-daughter, Melissa Ann Abbott; nieces, Sabrina Marie Sorell and Amanda Lee Sewell, and their families.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend her memorial service 2pm, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard, North Carolina.
A private celebration of her life will take place with close family on Friday, September 17, 2021 in Miami, Florida where Sallie will be put to rest at sea.
