Brevard - Sallie Lee Franks, age 96, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 in Knoxville, TN where she had come to live in order to be near her son and his family. Sallie was preceded in death by her husband James Franks and her sister Betty Skeen. She was born May 9, 1925 in Denton, NC. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Brevard, NC where she began working at Ecusta (Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation) and where she met and married James Dee Franks. They were married 54 years. Survivors include only son, James Rodney Franks (Mary), her grandson, Wes Franks (Melanie), her granddaughter, Kristen Franks Pearson (Pete), and great-grandsons Will Franks, Reed Franks, Davis Pearson and Jack Pearson. Sallie was a faithful, active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Brevard, NC where she was a beloved Sunday School teacher to middle school-aged young ladies. She regularly visited the sick who were unable to attend church and was involved in all church activities and events. She was also active in the Transylvania County Hospital Auxiliary working weekly at the hospital. Sallie was always ready to go on a trip. She loved to travel and had traveled all over North America and Europe. She also loved exercising through water aerobics at Brevard College and fitness exercises at Curves where she celebrated her 90th birthday! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broyhill Children's Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 (828.627.9254). The family will receive friends Monday, October 18, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, Brevard, NC. The funeral service will begin at 1:00pm with Jeff Maynard officiating.
