Sarah Goodson Hughey, age 72, peacefully passed away at home early morning of June 1, 2023 with her family by her side. Sarah was born on March 16, 1951 in Brevard, N.C. to Floyd and Mildred Goodson. Her parents taught her to have love for her family, love for the Lord and from that, everything would work out.

She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Mildred, and husband Sammy Lee Hughey.

Sarah followed in her dad's footsteps and worked for nearly 30 years at Ecusta while providing a warm and loving home to her husband and two children. When Ecusta shut its doors for the last time, Sarah went back to school and earned a degree from Blue Ridge Community College. She worked at United Community Bank and then College Walk until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Sarah used her personality and humor to make friends no matter where she was or what she was doing. That was one of her many traits that she passed down to her children. From an early age, her dream job was to work with animals like elephants and monkeys. Although she never reached that goal, she loved to visit zoos, aquariums or just watch the wildlife in our beautiful area.

She is survived by her brother Rex Goodson and wife Gail; daughter Valerie Tilson and husband Garrick; son Adam Hughey and wife Jessica; and grandsons Brett, Grant and Miles who affectionately called her "Meemaw".

Her family invites you to celebrate Sarah's life on June 10, 2023 at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Her service will begin at 1pm, followed by a visitation of family and friends.
