IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Saranne Florence
Whitney
September 21, 1942 – October 23, 2025
Pisgah Forest - Saranne Florence (d'Albenas) Whitney, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, having lived a life filled with love, grace, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
Saranne was born on September 21, 1942, in Nassau, Bahamas to Donald and Dorathea d'Albenas. She graduated from St. Andrew's School and obtained her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University. In 1965 she married Michael Whitney, and they moved to Freeport, Bahamas, where they lived for 13 years.. In 1978, along with their 3 sons, they moved to Brevard, North Carolina.
Saranne was a devoted Christian and very active member of Brevard Wesleyan Church, serving in numerous capacities over the years. She spent her life teaching children about God's love — at home with her own family, at her church, and overseas during multiple missions' trips. She was especially known for her love for children, her joyful heart, and her dedication to sharing the message of Gospel of Jesus Christ. In her later years, she lovingly devoted countless hours to Operation Christmas Child, packing shoeboxes for children around the world—an expression of her deep care for others and her commitment to spreading God's love.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Mike Whitney; her three sons, Doug, Jeff (and wife Gelya), and Gary Whitney; granddaughters Joy and Sasha Whitney; her three brothers Larry, Robert (and wife Heather), and Tim (and wife Robin) d'Albenas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at Brevard Wesleyan Church at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brevard Wesleyan Church in support of Operation Christmas Child, a ministry close to Saranne's heart.
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." – Matthew 19:14
