Selma Patricia "Penny" Smith, 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, NC. A native of Lytham-St. Anne's. England, she was the daughter of the late Edward Salthouse and Mabel Summerfield-Howarth Salthouse and was the wife of the late William George Smith. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joan Salthouse, and her brother, Edward Cecil Salthouse. Penny was a Registered Nurse and Midwife and she loved animals, and the mountains of WNC. She traveled extensively throughout the world. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Anne Mentzoni of Orlando, FL, and Susan Patricia Lilly and husband Chester of Mills River; grandchildren, Victoria Bjornsen and husband Irwin, Kristopher Vorren and Willian Vorren, and Alexandra Mentzoni; great grandchildren, Jake William Bjornsen and Justin Matthew Bjornsen. The memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with Celebrant Gatha Dickson officiating.
