Sheree Ann Beard Martines-May

Sheree Ann Beard Martines-May passed away peacefully on Sunday March 3, 2024. Sheree was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and spent most of her life in Charlotte, North Carolina, before retiring to Brevard, North Carolina. She graduated from South Mecklenburg High in Charlotte and attended Appalachian State University, where she earned a degree in Communications and Marketing, cum laude.

She worked as a communications professional for The American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries and NPR.  A wordsmith from a young age, she was a prolific writer. Her most recent publication was "Rude Awakening" in 2019.

She was predeceased by her mother, Betty Van Covern (2019), husbands, Paul Martines (1994) and Darryl May (2022), and brother-in-law Doug Gordon (2020).

She is survived by siblings Deb Holloway (Tom), Brad Sanders (Barbra Danin), Lynn Gordon and Julie Van Covern; nephews Grayson Gordon (Blaire) and Daniel Sanders; nieces Makala Gordon and Sophie May.

In lieu of flowers Sheree requested contributions be made in her memory to the ASPCA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 S. Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC  28712.
