Steven John Dense, of Brevard, NC died on August 3, 2024. He was 80 years old.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Dense; his children, Brian (Kara) Dense of Lewisburg, WV and Lori (Joe) Dunlop of Greensboro, NC; his three granddaughters, Lily Dense, Josie and Lola Dunlop; his sister Jackie Thomas (and niece, Michelle). He is preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was born on October 5, 1943, in Rochester, NY to Jack and Emilie Dense. Steve attended Chesire Academy in Connecticut, where he was a standout on the baseball and football teams. While attending college in Long Island, NY the family relocated to Brevard; Steve would also relocate to North Carolina and continue his undergraduate studies at Western Carolina University.
In 1968 Steve enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC where he was awarded and recognized for exemplary service. After a short tour at Fort Bliss, TX, Steve went to Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He remained a proud veteran and supporter of the military and veteran community for the remainder of his life as a member of the American Legion Post 88 in Brevard.
Following his time in service, Steve returned to Brevard, NC where he began his career in real estate. He loved the mountains of NC and enjoyed connecting people to new homes in the Brevard area. It was also shortly after returning to Brevard when he married Linda, his wife of 53 years.
In addition to being a long-standing member of Brevard-Davidson River Church, Steve served on the NC Board of Realtors. He was also elected as the President of the Glen Cannon Country Club and served as the Exalted Ruler of the Bevard Elks Lodge.
Steve will be remembered for devotion to his family, loyalty to his friends, and as a beloved member of the community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church (BDRPC) with a reception to follow. Pastor Keith Thompson will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve's life. After cremation, Steve's remains will be scattered in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to his beloved church, BDRPC.
