Reese
November 11, 1945 – July 24, 2024
Brevard - Genis Sue Powell Reese, 78, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 25, 2024.
Genis was the daughter of the late Roman Austin Powell and Ressie Whitmire Powell. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard Kermit Reese, two sisters, Jane Reese, and Joyce Reese.
Survivors include her son, Gregory Reese, and wife, Denise; sister, Betty Landreth, and sister, Rita Whitlock and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Hunter Reese (Candace), Hannah Reeves (Israel), and Harper Reese; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Susie, as all friends and family fondly called her, was an active member of East Fork Baptist Church where she played the organ and taught the preschool Sunday School class for many years.
She was well-known for her immense love of children. She could often be found sitting on the floor playing with trucks, dolls, or building blocks with her great-grandchildren. She also cared deeply for other children in the family and community with her infectious laughter and fun-loving demeanor.
Susie was an accomplished musician. She played the organ faithfully at her church for over fifty years. She could often be found playing the organ or keyboard at her house. She was comfortable sitting down at the piano and picking out whatever songs others wanted to hear. Any event involving singing or playing instruments brought her great joy; she often attended local concerts and musical events.
She was a devoted fan of Rosman High School athletics and enjoyed watching Greg play basketball and run track. In more recent years she was passionate about supporting her grandchildren and their respective teams as well.
Susie was loved by all who knew her and touched many lives through her kindness and compassion. She will be greatly missed.
