Obituary

Brevard - Talmadge Newton Phillips, age 94, went home to his Heavenly Father Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born in Jackson County in 1926, he was the eldest son of the late Sherman and Bertie Ashe Phillips. Also preceding him in death was two brothers, Tillman and Carroll. Survivors include his wife of 74 years Annie Hall Phillips, a brother, Theodore, sister Mildred Galloway, son, Merle (Deborah), daughters, Doris Hall (Robert) and Tammy Shelton, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Talmadge was a WWII veteran and recipient of The Purple Heart. He loved gardening, repairing small engines, reading his Bible, sitting out on his front porch and being with his family. Military graveside services will be held 2pm, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Blue Ridge Garden of Memory, formerly Pisgah Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
