Obituary

Thomas "Tom" "Sonny" Fisher Thomas E. Fisher of the Quebec Community went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 27, 2011. Sonny passed away at home after an extended period of declining health. Born July 9, 1943, he was the son of the late Paul M. and Virgie Thomas Fisher of the Quebec Community. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Brian K. Fisher and a son-in- law, Bob 'Blackwell. He retired from the Ecusta Corp. where he worked on the film side for most of his career. - He is survived by a loving and faithful wife of 48 years, Carol Richey Fisher; two daughters, Lisa Fisher, and Kim F. Mathis and husband, Brent; three grandchildren, Melissa Price Landreth, Megan Price, and Clay Mathis; one great grandson, Jonathan Landreth; three sisters, Doris Waldrop and husband Randall of Lake Toxaway, Lois Owen and husband Wayne of Cherryville, NC, and Paulette Megee and husband George of Landrum, SC; a brother-in-law who he raised like a son, Gary Richey and wife Martha of Penrose; sister in laws, Ruth Mathis and husband Robert, and Marlene Smith and husband Terry; a former son-in-law, John Price; step grandsons, David Blackwell and Josh Blackwell and wife, Ashley, and a step great grandchild, Paige Blackwell, and many nieces and nephews. Sonny is remembered as a hard worker and someone who felt very blessed having his children and grandchildren around him. He enjoyed the outdoors before disability affected him, loved watching football, basketball and NASCAR. Even through sickness he always enjoyed a good meal. He did love the Lord, and in his last days expressed that he wished he had spent more time living for the Lord instead of trying to do things his way. He was very faithful to his family and formed a particularly close relationship in the last years of his life with his great grandson. His eyes would light up when Jonathan came into the room. Though his absence creates a void in our lives, we know he is rejoicing to see his son and parents who preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Reese officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lake Toxaway. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 PM Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Roof and Building Fund, or Shriners Hospital for Children, Greenville, SC, c/o Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
