Verlon Wood, 80, of Rosman, NC took Jesus by the hand and went to walk with
Him down the streets of gold on Sunday, February 20, 2011. He was a very humble
and generous man.
He loved helping others. His family was his life, and you couldn't
talk with him long, without him bragging on his grandchildren. He is survived by
his precious wife, of 59 years, Ollie Mae Wood, his daughter and son-in-law,
Monty and Juanelle Burrell, their three children: Garrett, Alexis, and Brooklyn all
of Rosman, his son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Rexann Wood, their three
children: Kenan, Lydia, and Madelyn, all of Marshall, one brother, James Wood
and his wife, Lola, of Brevard, two brothers-in-Iaw, Berlis and Berlin Owen, of
Rosman, and their wives, two sister-in-laws, and a number of nieces and
nephews.
He was the son of the late, Rufus and Lucille Wood of Brevard. He was preceded
in death by a sister, Edith Green and a brother Leon Wood. He lived all his life in
Transylvania Co. He retired from Ecusta after 42 years. He was a retired member
of Rosman Volunteer Fire Department. He loved hunting, fishing, digging ramps,
making a garden, and driving his tractor. He married his sweetheart on Dec.
20, 1951, and was very seldom without her by his side. He was a wonderful,
loving husband and the very best daddy and granddaddy. He will be truly missed,
but will be reunited with his family when God calls them away from this earthly
home to be with Him.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 from 3-4 with a memorial service
immediately following at Cathey's Creek Baptist Church.
