Victor Fred Owen, 68, of Sapphire passed away Saturday June 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born December 12, 1944 in Transylvania County to the late Fred Owen and Nellie Wilde Owen. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his twin brothers Jimmy and Johnny Owen a one granddaughter Taylor Owen. Mr. Owen was retired from Lake Toxaway Grading as a mechanic and equipment operator he was a Member of The Church at Sapphire and served four and a half years in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife Ruth Miller Owen, one son; Victor Aaron Owen, two daughters; Sonya Hoxit and Tracy Hunter, two brothers Michael Owen and J.C. Owen, one sister Mildred Powell and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday July 3, 2013 at The Church at Sapphire conducted by Rev. Tommy Owen, Rev. Pete Lee, Rev. Ray Von Galloway and Rev. Oliver Scarrett. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening July 2, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be; Herbert Owen, Willie Owen, Kenneth Owen, Larry Miller, Shawn Powell and Travis Owen.
