With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Victoria Amerible Gillespie Trent, who passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 96, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on July 21, 1928, in Transylvania County, NC, to the late Claude Elmer Gillespie and Victoria Gillespie. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lloyd Trent, daughter, Janet Trent Byrd, brothers, Johnny Gillespie, Joseph Gillespie, C.E. Gillespie and Alvin Gillespie; sisters, Cornelia Amick, Reba King, Mildred Taylor, Zandra Lance, and Edith Jo Gillespie.
Survivors include one son, Richard Trent (Patsy); one daughter, Lana Vollendorf (Keith); grandchildren, Stacy Byrd, Rose Byrd Rice (Kyle), Johnny Trent (Dorothy), Michael Trent, Lisa Berghage (Scott), and Keri Trent; many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she adored.
Victoria was known for her quiet strength, gentle humor, and boundless love for her family. She dedicated her life to raising her children, serving her church and community, and sharing wisdom with those around her. She will be remembered for her homemade meals, her storytelling, her love of music, especially listening to and singing old Gospel hymns, and nature, and for the way she touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Victoria worked at Coats North America in Hendersonville, NC for 37 years. She was a longtime member of One Church (formerly Glady Branch Baptist Church) in Brevard, NC. She never met a stranger, treated everyone with respect and kindness, and was very generous.
The family will receive friends starting at 1 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at One Church, 1156 Rosman Hwy., Brevard, NC. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM Thursday, May 29, 2025.
