Virginia Starke Allen, 95, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013. She was born in New York, NY on May 29, 1918 to the late Harry Andrew Starke and Mary Mescall Starke. Her mother died at an early age and she was raised by her father, and her grandmother, Jenny Richter Starke. She lived in New York City for many years, residing in Bayside, Queens, before moving to Kinelon, NJ. Virginia attended Pace Institute (now Pace University) and obtained a position with the Irving Trust Company and later with the Union Camp Paper Corporation. She worked in the finance division for over 35 years and attained the title of Assistant Treasurer. She retired and has lived since in Sarasota, FL, Lake Toxaway, and in College Walk in Brevard. Virginia is the widow of Charles F. Bruns of Long Island, and Albert John Allen of Smoke Rise, NJ. She was active on the board of the Salvation Army where she received the Lifetime Impact Ward in 2008, and evidenced her compassion and love for all in need and the plight of animals in distress. She is survived by her cousins Steven Nelson, Frederic Nelson, Janet Slater Cassinelli, and Barbara Mroz; nieces of her late husband, Loralee Bruns Kinsel, Derice Bruns Hunn, Lynell Bruns Stoner; children of her late husband, Wesley Allen and Joan A. Greene; many loving friends in the Brevard Community. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. Philips Episcopal Church with Father Rob Field officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. Interment will be in All Faiths Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
