Virginia Burrell Lanning, age 95, passed away on September 15, 2019. Mrs. Lanning was born on December 4, 1923 in Rabun Gap, GA to the late Herschel Lee Burrell and Addie Welch Burrell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Linton James "Red" Lanning, five brothers and two sisters. She was a Brevard resident for 70 years. Mrs. Lanning attended nursing school in Franklin, NC and worked at Ecusta for over 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brevard. Survivors include her son, J.E. "Ric" Lanning and wife Susan of Durham, NC; two sisters, Mildred Gibbs and Adilene Davis both of Elon College, NC; a very special nephew, Jesse Smith and wife Elizabeth of Brevard and many other special nieces and nephews; special friend, Dottie Tinsley of Brevard. A celebration of her life will be held at 5 PM Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the home of Jesse and Elizabeth Smith, 167 Morningside Dr., Brevard, NC. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
