Obituary

Jenny Powell Rice, age 76, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Saturday March 9th at the Elizabeth House surrounded by her loving family.  She had fought a long battle with lung disease and other health issues.  She was a beautiful soul inside and out.

Jenny was born on October 6, 1947, in Rosman, NC to the late Homer Powell and Edith Chapman Anders.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jewel Powell, late Husband Donnie Rice.  Previous late Husband Harold Staton, stepdaughter Donna Staton Durham and Grandson Jeremy McCall.

Surviving family members includes Son, Danny Staton (Judi); Daughter, Missie Staton Wilmot (Keith) and stepchildren, Jerry Rice and Kristy Rice Norris (Chris), Jo Staton Hollingsworth, Annette Staton Elliott. Grandchildren; Taylor Wilmot Young (Tom), Dillion Staton, Tanner Staton, Tiffany Rogers Horne (Daryl), Michael Wilmot, Tristan Staton, Ashlyn Orr (Noah), Courtney Laws (Jordan), Tela Duncan (Andy), Micah Norris, Natalie Williams (Cody) and Matthew Rice, Jeff Staton, Courtney Lance, Andre Hemphill, Keira Hemphill. Great-Grandchildren, Trace Young, Molly Young, Charles Young, Natalie Horne, Emmitt Staton, Jordan Staton, Maverick Staton, Braxton Orr, CharLeigh Orr and Laiken Creech.  Two Brothers, Lewis Powell and Leonard Powell (Viola); Four Sisters, Mary Morgan, Josephine Owen, Joyce Stitch and Lorena Patterson (Earl).  Along with many Nieces and Nephews.  Extended family to include Ruth Ann Garlits, Eugene and Lillian Staton, Cecil and Winky Staton, Sandra Staton Hamilton.

Jenny who was also known by her Grandchildren as "Nannie", was most known for her smile, amazing cooking and baking.  She made the most wonderful meals and baked goods on the old wood stove still.  She had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone.  She gave so much to those throughout her life who needed it without hesitation.  She loved spending time with her family, listening to Gospel and bluegrass music and reading scripture from her Bible.  Her family was her heart and the biggest part of her life and the most important thing to her next to the Lord.

She attended Rosman School.  At age 15 she was crowned Miss Eastatoe.  She worked for over 30 years at the Ecusta Paper Mill (Olin & PH Glatfelter) in Pisgah Forest before it was closed.

Graveside services to be announced for a later date at Pisgah Gardens.

The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to all the wonderful caring staff at Pardee Hospital, The Elizabeth House, Four Seasons Hospice Care, The Landings of Mills River and the Oaks of Brevard and her Primary Care Physician for many years, Dr Hal Royer.  For all the friends and family who cared enough to take the time to call her or come visit with her, Danny and I greatly appreciate it and so did she.  We also appreciate all the many calls and texts we received giving support during this time.

"This is not goodbye, but until we meet again…."
