William George Smith Pisgah Forest – William George Smith, 84, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. A native of Liverpool, England, he was the son of the late George Bernard Smith and Anne Davies Smith. Capt. Smith was a veteran of the British Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy Reserves. He was a longtime seafarer who fell in love with the mountains. Surviving are his wife, Selma Patricia "Penny" Smith; daughters, Elizabeth Anne Mentzoni and husband Willy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Susan Patricia Lilly and husband Chester of Mills River; grandchildren, Victoria Bjornsen and husband Irwin, Kristopher and William Vorren, and Alexandra Mentzoni; great-grandson, Jake William Bjornsen.
