William Marion Webb, Jr. – 'Sadie'
The son of the late William M. Webb and Grace Tarwater Webb, Bill – known as 'Sadie' to his friends – was born April 25, 1931 in Sevierville, TN and died peacefully March 15, 2011 in Brevard, NC. He lived most of his life in Blount County, TN. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Bill served six years as a radio operator, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Later, his primary occupation was as a skilled pipe-fitter and boilermaker, traveling to factories across Tennessee. He was best known for his love of singing and playing the guitar. Bill worked for a time at Tommy Covington Music Studios in Knoxville giving guitar lessons, and he sang and played lead guitar on Tommy's weekly radio show. He was also a member of the band "The Showmen." Although in his later years Alzheimer's disease claimed much of his memory, Bill retained his passion for music and playing guitar. The family appreciates the loving care Bill received at the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (Black Mountain, NC) and the Brian Center of Brevard, NC.
Preceded in death by a sister, Jean McFarland (Charlotte, NC), Bill is survived by: daughters Marian O'Neil and Holly Messer (Brevard, NC); grandsons Wyatt and Colton Messer (Brevard, NC); sisters Linda Downing (Friday Harbor, WA), Peggy Ford (Robbinsville, NC), Joanne Buchanan (Maitland, FL), Sandra Goodman (Jonesboro, GA), June Goddard (Maryville, TN), and Margie VanBuren (Orlando, FL); and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church (Maryville, TN), Rev. Danny Treadway officiating.
