Never predictable

River Mix was there for everyone in our family... she was fun, sometimes angry, sometimes happy, and sometimes still sleepy, but she was never predictable. One day she would be in the middle of fixing my hair and she would just plop down beside me and say You're finished... ! But no I said I wasn't finished...and she said oh yes... that's enough for today! So sometimes I went home with beautiful hair, and sometimes I did not, but it was always an experience!

She was fun for our grandsons when she gave them their first haircuts and for sharing stories with our Kids.

But last Friday , she was so very happy.  She told me how much she loved to swim for hours and she was looking forward to the family picnic that weekend at Lake Keowee. She was drinking coconut water, eating delicious food from her garden and keeping her complexion so beautiful with honey!  She  would once again tell me stories of her mother in Texas, and of her sisters and her big family and their Americanization. Of course I had heard these many times before... but they were great stories. She was so very proud of her newphew and we read some of his essays together, and of her neice in Highlands that was starting ninth grade and was getting to be such a good student. I hope that they know how very proud of them she was!

She was  also so proud of her degree in English, and her eager desire to go back to school  and learn was inpsirational. She said she would have been a great lawyer, and you know, I think she would have!

Her funniest story was about how she tricked the time-share representatives into an amazing free vacation... and then when it was time for the 2 hour sales pitch, she suddently said "I no speak the English". HA, ha!! That was River. There has never been another like her!

ANd we loved her for it! And will miss her terribly!!

with love, Susan Bruce, Meg, Alex, Meagen, Thomas and Bruce Gibson
