A  few summers ago, Ann and I were visiting our dear friends, Jan and Dick, when Dick commented that with all of his travels he had never visited Greece or the Greek Islands. I said that I had always wanted to go there. Ann and Jan generously  proposed that Dick and I make the trip. This led to a great Road Scholar sixteen day Greek holiday.

When I told the tour leader that Dick was a Geologist she asked him if he woukd discuss the geology of  Athens and each of the islands. He generously agreed and enthraled the group on each occasion. It was no surprise to me as  my friend of forty seven years was a kind, intelligent, generous man of great character as well as a good room mate and ship mate!
