Obituary for Linda Ann Chapman (Greene)

Print
Linda Green Chapman, 77, passed away at her earthly home in Lake Toxaway, NC on Friday, November 2nd, 2018 and went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The daughter of Dwight Green and Mary Whitmire of East Fork, she was a native of Transylvania County.

She is survived by her devoted husband Lawrence Chapman, daughter Rhonda Whitmire and her husband Mike Whitmire, son Ronnie Chapman and his wife Rosetta Chapman, son Stephen Chapman and his wife Shari Chapman, daughter Stacie Dotson and her husband Kirk Dotson, and her son Patrick Chapman and his wife Amanda Chapman, all still residing in Transylvania County. She took great joy and pride in her 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by four sisters, Wanda Duckworth, Dorene Holland, Carolyn McCall, and Frieda Chapman.

Linda and Lawrence were happily married for 59 years, and she gained many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law through the Chapman family, whom she loved dearly. She was the much cherished “Aunt Linda” to her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces in both the Chapman and Green families.

Linda was a proud graduate of Rosman High School and Mars Hill College. She was a retired educator in the Transylvania County School system, having taught for many years at T.C. Henderson Elementary. She will always be fondly remembered by countless students that came through her classroom. She was a great teacher with a passion for learning and teaching.

While in good health, she was an active member of her church family at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Quebec community, playing piano, working in the church library, and teaching Sunday school and Bible school classes for many years.

She had many interests and talents such as music, dance, reading, and athletics, but she especially loved to be outdoors hiking and spending time with Lawrence and the rest of the family.

Linda was a kind and generous soul, never having an unkind word for anyone. She always expected and thought the best of people and was quick to forgive all. She had a inquisitive mind, loving heart, unstoppable work ethic, and an unshakable faith. She was an astounding and amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend. She will be missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the Home Care & Hospice nurses and doctors and especially Suzanne Keogh for their wonderful help and compassion.

Services for Linda will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church at 3:30 on Monday, November 5th. There will be a graveside service only, with a meal to follow in the fellowship hall. Dress is casual and all are invited to celebrate this wonderful woman. The family asked that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation ( https://www.parkinson.org/ ) or the Oak Grove Church Cemetery Fund.
