Mary Reynolds  Chapman
Mary Lee Reynolds Chapman, a resident of College Walk, passed away at Mission Hospital on Tuesday, April 8th with her husband and children present.

She was the daughter of the late Pike Clifton and Eunice Victoria Dennis Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by be beloved step-father, Barney Henry Jameson and two brothers, James Madison Reynolds and Pike Clifton Reynolds, Jr.

Mary was first and foremost dedicated to her family. She was an encourager and enabled her husband and children to move through life toward their own goals and dreams. For over 30 years, she was a very capable and adventurous Navy wife. In 1962, she was evacuated from Cuba during the Missile Crisis. She taught elementary school and was an accomplished oil painter. She was very involved in Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, and Job's Daughters and provided many years of service to the community.

Along with her husband, she had a passion for collecting fly-fishing books, and in 2012 donated a collection of over 2,200 books to the National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg, Virginia.

Mary and her husband George moved from California, their last duty station, to North Carolina in 2008 to be near their two children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Her family is grateful for the open-hearted way that they were welcomed into Brevard.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 70 years, Commander George Thomas Chapman, Jr., United States Navy-Ret.; son, G. Thomas Chapman, III and wife Cherry of Brevard, daughter; Catherine C. Chapman of Pisgah Forest, one niece; Ersi Reynolds of Arcata, CA; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service was held at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the College Walk Auditorium.
